Santiago de Compostela

cathedral in evening (12K)

The city of Santiago de Compostela lies in the north-west corner of Spain. An ancient city dating back hundreds of years, Santiago rose to fame in the Middle Ages when it became a magnet for pilgrims across the world who came to pray at the tomb of St James the Great, located in the magnificent Cathedral.

Many pilgrims still follow the traditional ancient pathways or Camino first formed by medieval pilgrims.Today, pilgrims may also choose to travel by bicycle as well as travelling on foot or horseback.
